Cinema Review – The Dark Knight Rises

Eight years after the defeat of The Joker and Two-Face, Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) has hung up his cape. When a new threat – Bane (Tom Hardy) – comes to town, hell bent on causing chaos, Batman resurfaces to protect the city that drove him into hiding.

Warning, it is rather difficult to review The Dark Knight Rises without giving away some plot points, so if you wish to remain in the dark, stop reading now.

Cannes Review – Rust and Bone (De Rouille et D’os)

Based on a collection of short stories by Craig Davidson, Rust and Bone tells the story of Ali (Matthias Schoenaerts) and Stephanie (Marion Cotillard), a couple who meet during a nightclub brawl. Ali drives Stephanie home and leaves his number in case she ever needs him. Some time later, she calls. Stephanie trained killer whales at a marine park in Antibes on the French Riviera, but has lost her legs due to an accident. The more these two people spend time together, the more they come alive through one another. Continue reading
