The Guardians are the creatures of fable and fairy tale that we believed in as children – The Sandman, Santa (Alec Baldwin), The Tooth Fairy (Isla Fisher) and The Easter Bunny (Hugh Jackman). These Guardians protect children and keep them safe from the evil Pitch (Jude Law), until Pitch rises stronger than ever, and the Guardians must call on Jack Frost (Chris Pine) to join them in defeating evil.
I was lucky enough to see a rather large chunk of this movie at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. It was an incredibly early start, but the gorgeous images presented soon woke me up. Rise of the Guardians looks like a christmas story of old; good defeats evil with some thrills and spills along the way. The sweet idea at the heart of the film is that these characters we have all grown up with actually know each other well and work together often – haven’t you ever wondered if Santa knew the Sandman and so on?
The film – as you can see from the trailer below – is gorgeously, brightly and intricately realised, and the voce talent seem to give their all to their roles, although Alec Baldwin’s accent has not convinced me yet.
I love children’s films, and this trailer for Rise of the Guardians makes the film look exciting, mysterious and beautiful… The film looks to be filled with wonder and magic, and Pitch looks deliciously evil.
I am excited… Even though it is only July.
