2014 at the Movies

It’s that time of year again, where we film critics cast our eyes back over the year that was, and choose the films that stood out among the many.

When looking back over, at first glance it seems as though 2014 was not a particularly good year for cinema, but when delving deeper, it becomes obvious that the summer blockbuster season was weak, but many of the best movies of the year were released early on, and the indie circuit produced some great films this year.

I have watched and reviewed over 250 films in 2014, but choosing the best was actually surprisingly easy. Here they are, in no particular order, and remember; not all are 5 star films, or 4 star. They are films that stood out to me for various reasons…

Only Lovers Left Alive
Guardians of the Galaxy
The Lego Movie
Inside Llewyn Davis
The Grand Budapest Hotel
The Zero Theorem
Starred Up
Blue Ruin
The Punk Singer
Edge of Tomorrow
Begin Again
What If
The Guest
The Boxtrolls
20,000 Days on Earth
We Are The Best!
Love Eternal
What We Do In The Shadows
