In April 2010, the biggest oil spill un US history began with an explosion aboard the offshore drilling rig, the Deepwater Horizon. Mike Williams (Mark Wahlberg) returned to work on the rig not long before the accident, and struggled to get as many people off the rig alive as he could, while trying to stop the disastrous chain of events that had been set in motion.
